Rick Simpson has been a member of UUCR since 2015. He is a singer in the community choir; a meditator in the UUCR Sangha; a deliberator and collective decision maker on the Music Committee; and a sound presence on the Tech Team. He has especially enjoyed participating in the Ethier Fund Spring Soiree in the past two years. Rick is married with two adult children: Molly is a resident in emergency medicine at a hospital in The Bronx, Sally is a Ph.D. candidate in Germanic culture at Georgetown University. Rick’s spouse Kelda is retired from the World Bank. Rick is phasing into retirement from his job as an attorney and hearing officer at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). In Rick’s leisure hours, he reads books of history and world literature; listens to a lot of music in the genres of rock n roll, punk rock, jazz, and classical; and works out almost every day in weight- training, running, and wall climbing.
Virginia has found her spiritual home at UUCR. She has been a member since 2017. Her two children, Lucy (age 8) and Leo (age 7), had their child dedication ceremonies here as babies. Virginia is part of the Religious Education (RE) team and the Outreach and Growth committee. Outside of UUCR, she remains busy raising her children, working as a sleep psychologist, volunteering with the PTA, and connecting with friends and families. For self-care, she enjoys yoga, reading, TV, and popcorn.
I've been attending UUCR since 1986, and have served as Assistant Treasurer since Manny DeAngelis asked me to take this position in 1996. I have mostly served in Finance committees with a few other committees in the past: fundraisers, All-Church Retreats, and Denominational Affairs. Most of my activities are keeping the donation and pledge parts of Realm under control, and I am also the primary contact officer for our bank and brokerages. I am always happy to answer questions and correct Realm when its sometimes-difficult interface doesn't reflect how your donations should be applied. Thank you for your consideration to allow me to continue in this position.
Richard is a retired freelance financial writer and, formerly, an editor and trade magazine publisher. He joined UUCR about 14 years ago. His parents did not attend any church. Richard was a member of protestant churches for many years prior to joining UUCR. He and his wife Sally, a retired MCPS math teacher, have two middle-aged sons who live nearby in Rockville, along with three granddaughters and one grandson.
At UUCR Richard has been involved in RE, primarily as a former teacher of middle high school youth. He was an active member of the Tool Time Gang, and has played leadership roles with the Action Auction and the Canvass committee. He currently is a member of the Family Faith Formation team and the Personnel Committee.
Outside of UUCR, Richard serves on the board of directors of the Rainbow Place women's shelter in Rockville, and on the board of Solar Household Energy, a small environmental nonprofit organization.
Libby Sullivan has been a member of UUCR since 2009. She was one of the editors of Quest, presently she heads the flower and decorations committee.
She has always been interested in people and why they do what they do, this led her to study human development in college.
I started attending UUCR in 2001 and became a member in 2002. Over the years, I’ve been involved in many activities and held some leadership roles. I’ve participated in programs to expand my knowledge and enlarge our congregational understanding of LGBTQIA+ people, world religions, and racial equity issues. I’m currently participating in the UU Theology Reading Group, and I’m the music librarian for the choir. I was a General Trustee on the Board (2008-2011); co-led a Small Group in the early years of that program; co-led the Action Auction two or three years in the pre-pandemic days when it was an in-person event with dinner; and helped with the Fellowship Dinner for the past 3 years.
Outside of UUCR, I’m a retired librarian and researcher, and my husband and I enjoy classical music, opera, walking, and sumo. I was welcomed to UUCR and kept coming because of the friendly people. I’ve enjoyed meeting UUCR folks since that time and getting to know many people. I value our high quality lay leadership and will appreciate the opportunity to serve on the Nominating Committee.
