Elect new leaders
Decide whether to change the rules governing the use of our Endowment Fund
Decide whether to change our Articles of Incorporation
Decide whether to change our By-Laws
Only official Members of UUCR (as of Feb. 18) are eligible to vote. Maryland law only permits adults to vote on business items. A congregational vote is only valid if a quorum of Members is present, as certified by the Secretary.
Every year, the Nominating Committee recruits a slate of volunteers who are willing to serve on the Board of Trustees or on the Nominating Committee. People may also be nominated during the Annual Meeting. New leaders must be approved by a majority of UUCR Members voting. Usually, the Nominating Committee has difficulty recruiting volunteers. Consequently, elections are usually uncontested and the Congregation votes to accept or reject the entire slate as proposed by the Nominating Committee. More information...
Executive Summary of proposed changes to foundational documents (PDF)
UUCR has an Endowment fund that was established in 1997 "to enhance the mission" of UUCR. Current rules do not allow money from the Endowment to be spent in the ordinary, annual operating budget. So far, the Congregation has received little benefit from the Endowment. The Board proposes changing the rules to permit some earnings to be spent in the annual operating budget. Changing the rules requires approval by a two-thirds super-majority Congregational vote. More information...
The primary motivation to change the Articles is to update our legal name from "Church" to "Congregation." The change of name was approved by the Congregation years ago, but the Articles were not updated. One section of the Articles that is required by Maryland law is a description of the Congregation's mission and purpose. That section has been re-written. More information...
The Bylaws have been re-written to bring them into conformity with how UUCR currently operates. In addition, the proposed version has been shortened by removing some details that are more appropriate for policy documents. Several significant changes are being proposed. More information...
Written comments have been considered in the final re-writing process for the three documents. Subsequently, the Board voted (on May 12) to finalize the documents to be presented to the Congregation for voting. No further changes can be made before the vote. However, there will be some time at the May 18 meeting for questions and comments.
