Dr. Joshua Fishbein joined the UUCR staff as Director of Music & Arts in August 2022.  Prior to working at UUCR, Joshua served for five years as Music Director at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Glenn Dale, Maryland, and seven years directing Kol Rinah at Chizuk Amuno Congregation of Baltimore. He also serves as Musician at Temple Micah in Washington, DC, and Adjunct Faculty at The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University.

 

Dr. Fishbein has dedicated his life to conducting, instructing, and composing music. As a choral conductor, he has held conducting positions with a variety of ensembles, including the UMBC Camerata, UCLA Early Music Ensemble, Schola Adventus of San Francisco, and the San Francisco Conservatory Chorus, with which he served for two years as assistant conductor to David Conte. Dr. Fishbein instructs music theory, musicianship, and arranging courses as an adjunct faculty member of The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Previously, he taught at The College of New Jersey, Towson University, the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

 

Finally, Fishbein is an award-winning composer and arranger of choral music. His compositions are published by E.C. Schirmer Music Company, Hal Leonard Corporation, Transcontinental Music Publications, and Yelton Rhodes Music. He has received composition awards from the American Choral Directors Association, the Cantate Chamber Singers, Chorus America, Chorus Austin, the National Lutheran Choir, and several other music organizations. Originally from Owings Mills, Joshua returned to Maryland with his family after earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Carnegie Mellon University, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the University of California Los Angeles.
