EAG is a volunteer-run group made up of UUCR congregants who strive to deepen UUCR's commitment to our interconnected web of life and strive for environmental justice through concrete actions. We are taking a data-driven approach to reducing UUCR's environmental impacts with a focus on substantially reducing the congregation's carbon emissions, including replacing old furnaces with heat pumps, setting up a carpooling system, and other energy efficiency projects. We also help with other environment-related projects like removing invasive plants and installing bird-friendly window films. Additionally, we organize events, particularly in April for Earth Month. If you have an idea we would be excited to help make it come to life! You can get in touch by emailing EnvironmentalActionGroup@UUCR.org or by joining the EAG group on Realm.
UUCR has a referral partnership with Neighborhood Sun, a local certified B Corporation that facilitates community solar projects in Maryland. Anyone with a Pepco account (both renters and owners) can sign up to reserve space on a local solar farm. The energy your space produces is credited towards your Pepco account. You then pay Neighborhood Sun for the electricity produced, at a 10% discount, or 20% discount for qualified low-income households. UUCR will also receive a $100 donation for every sign up through our REFERRAL LINK. Sharing with friends and family is encouraged.
