Assistant Minister for Lifelong Faith Formation
We are thrilled to welcome Rev. Mykal O’Neal Slack to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville as our Assistant Minister for Lifelong Faith Formation, beginning in early September!
Rev. Mykal brings deep wisdom, compassion, and over two decades of experience in faith formation, pastoral care, and spiritual leadership. He currently serves as the Community Minister for Worship & Spiritual Care for Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU)—a powerful and growing spiritual community that offers care, resources, and connection for Black UUs across the diaspora.
He is also a co-founder of the Transforming Hearts Collective, a ministry that supports queer, trans, and nonbinary people through healing-centered spaces and guides congregations in the deep work of radical welcome and cultural transformation.
Rev. Mykal has served in a range of leadership roles, including Co-Director of the Freedom Center for Social Justice; Director of Congregational Life at the UU Fellowship of Raleigh, NC; Community Life Coordinator and Worship Leader at First Parish in Cambridge, and Director of Worship for the Sanctuary Boston. In each of these roles, he has helped communities grow in spirit, deepen in justice, and live more fully into Beloved Community.
With a heart for spiritual care and a commitment to lifelong learning, Rev. Mykal helps foster communities where people of all ages can thrive, question boldly, and connect authentically. We are so excited for all the ways he will enrich our congregation’s journey of faith, growth, and transformation.
