Comprehensive Plan Committee

Why a new Mission and Vision?

The Comprehensive Plan Committee (CPC) was formed as a committee of the UUCR congregation in 1998. The committee's tasks have included:

In February 2004 the UUCR congregation gave CPC an exciting charge:

The CPC will lead the congregation through a process to discern and verbalize its mission and vision, and will guide in the development of long range goals and plans to support the programs, activities, and initiatives that help the congregation achieve the stated mission and vision.

The statements below are the result of CPC’s work over the course of a year to discern UUCR’s mission and vision. They represent many conversations, data collection and analysis, and ongoing interaction with church committees.

Process: How were these statements developed?

  • We collected and analyzed data past and present about UUCR and its members.
  • We examined demographic trends within our local community and analyzed recent projections.
  • We surveyed the congregation about the values that matter most to them.
  • We presented the results of this discovery phase to the congregation on posters in the lobby throughout October 2004.
  • We conducted a worship service to share our mission and vision process, present our findings, and help members visualize the future.
  • We met with the Search Committee and Transition Support Team to coordinate our efforts.
  • We held a series of 4 facilitated workshops to learn how our members view UUCR core functions and envision future possibilities.
  • We summarized our findings and held several feedback sessions with the congregation.
  • We distilled all input and feedback to create draft Vision and Mission Statements that reflect what we heard. We focused on the most frequently mentioned needs and desires to create succinct and meaningful Statements.

How will the mission and vision serve the church?

  • They help the Board and Council set priorities and allocate resources.
  • They guide committees planning their activities and projects.
  • They inform visitors, neighbors, and the greater community who we are.
  • They guide UUCR in developing a long range plan for the congregation.

The following Vision and Mission Statements were approved by the congregation in May 2005:

Our New Vision Statement: Where are we going in the next 5 years?
