For more recent activities, see the News page. Advocacy PoliciesUUCR has two social justice advocacy policies. The first is the UUCR Policy for Congregational Advocacy on Social Justice defining the process by which the Congregation may take a public position on social justice issues. It was approved by the Board of Trustees in March of 2008. The second is the UUCR SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE ADVOCACY POLICY AND PROCEDURES that defines the procedures by which the Social Justice Committee may take a public position on social justice issues. It was approved by the Board of Trustees in April of 2006. The following are social justice advocacy positions adopted by the Social Justice Committee using this procedure. Resolution Against Torture, August 2007UUCR's Social Justice Committee formally endorsed the aims of the Washington Region Religious Campaign Against Torture (WRRCAT) in this resolution (Word doc) that states that the use of torture as a tool of foreign policy or for any other reason poses a grave threat to the United States and to the world and agrees to unite with other faith-based bodies in taking a public stand against U.S.sponsored torture. More information here. Exit Iraq Resolution 2006This Resolution in Support of Withdrawal of U.S. Forces from Iraq was adopted by the UUCR-SJ committee on June 6, 2006. |
