Rainbow Youth Alliance

A Safe Place for GLBTQ Teens and their Allies in Montgomery County

The Rainbow Youth Alliance is a support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and questioning teens and their allies. RYA is a safe place to ask questions, find mutual support, and learn information pertinent to their lives.

Sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockville, RYA meetings include structured curricula, discussion groups, movies and games in a safe and supervised environment. Teens between 14 and 18 years of age are welcome, regardless of their gender orientation or religious affiliation. You only need to bring an open heart and mind.

March 18

The Lesbian and Gay Chorus of Washington
This benefit concert will provide funds for RYA’s programs. RYA teens will help with ushering and refreshments.

April 1

Safe Sex / Respecting Yourself and Others
Sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS are two risks of unsafe sex – and so are emotional hurts. Learn how to stay safe, respect your own needs and boundaries, and respect others.

Youth Pride
Washington DC’s Youth Pride Alliance sponsors Youth Pride Day in Rock Creek Park. This year’s theme is “Fighting AIDS in DC.”

May 6

Taking Control of your Life Part 1
Life has a lot of stresses, but often our own ways of thinking make it worse. Part of the answer is taking responsibility for your own life. We’ll talk about some ways you can make this happen.

Taking Control of your Life Part 2
Everybody needs places of comfort, whether they are physical, mental, or emotional. Sometimes, we are the places of comfort for other people.

Dance Planning and Preparation
RYA teens will plan for a county-wide dance party to be held at UUCR on June 8.

Dance
Montgomery County GLBTQ teens and their allies are invited to a dance and party at UUCR. Come for the music, refreshments, and to meet friends and allies.
