Peace Vigil, Monday, September 11, 7:30 p.m. There will be candle lighting, songs, and silence as we remember all who have lost their lives because of acts of war and terror these past five years.

All-Church Retreat, Friday-Sunday, October 13-15, 2006, at Camp Round Meadow in Catoctin National Park, Thurmont, MD. Enjoy crafts, games, sports, hiking, workshops, coffeehouse, meditation sessions, various youth and children’s activities, organized dance, campfire program, and a Sunday worship service! Wonderful Wednesday: "Unplugging the Christmas Tree", Wednesday, October 18, 7:30 p.m. Deborah Kahn, Director of Religious Education, and Paulette Campbell are going to help us make a commitment to a new kind of Christmas holiday. They will be drawing their inspiration from the book, Unplug the Christmas Machine by Robinson and Jean C. Staeheli.

Wonderful Wednesday: "Retracing the Lewis and Clark Expedition, 1803–1806", Wednesday, October 25, 7:30 p.m. Jennie and Bill Forehand present a slideshow/discussion about their 7,000-mile journey following the 1803–1806 Lewis & Clark Expedition across our country. Be sure not to miss this event where you will see Bill attired as a typical member of the Corps of Discovery, including a tomahawk and scalping knife (a sight to behold!).

Wonderful Wednesday: "All Souls Day: A Celebration of Saints and Ancestors., Wednesday, November 1, 7:30 p.m. Reverend Lynn Strauss and Deborah Kahn, RE Director, will help us understand what these celebrations are all about.

Our Annual Bizarre Bazaar is Saturday, November 11. Bring your donations to the Sanctuary Entrance starting Sunday, Nov. 5 at 5:00 p.m. Collection Schedule and Donation Guidelines. You can also sign up to help and donate edibles online.


A Benefit Concert: "Save Darfur" November 19, 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Philip Hosford, internationally known concert pianist, will play works by Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel, Debussy and Scriabin. Following the concert there will be a reception. Donations will be given to Unitarian Universalist Service Committee for their work for Darfur. A $10 dollar donation, or as you are able, is requested.

Community Ministries of Rockville Interfaith Thanksgiving Service will be held Wednesday evening, November 22 at 8:00 p.m. at UUCR. Come and hear choirs from our neighboring churches and temples and mosques. Reverend Strauss will preach and clergy from various other congregations will participate. Guest soloists are Ian McEuen, tenor and Susan Wilson, bassoonist.

Thanksgiving Dinner Share Thanksgiving with your friends at UUCR! Dinner will be at 2:00 p.m., November 23, in the Fellowship Hall. Space is limited to 32 people, so don’t delay signing up. A small donation to cover the cost of a succulent turkey from Magruders and a contribution of your favorite side dish or dessert are requested.

Spiritual Journaling: Writing for Worship and Meditation, Wednesday, November 29, 7:30 p.m. Join Reverend Strauss in exploring writing as a spiritual path. Come for a time of reflection followed by the opportunity to create a personal meditation manual for the coming holiday season. Bring notebook, pen or laptop- whatever is most comfortable for you.

First Friday Freedom Film: How to Plant the “Seeds” of Peace, Friday, December 1, 7:30 p.m. In “Seeds,” teenagers from opposite sides of wartorn countries gather together at the Seeds of Peace International Camp for three life-changing weeks. Free

Getting Ready for the Holidays Saturday, December 2, 5:30 p.m. Our annual potluck and holiday craft party. Make seasonal decorations to take home and for trimming the church tree. Music by the Holiday Band. Potluck starts at 5:30, party starts at 6:30.

Wonderful Wednesday: "Caroling in the Neighborhood", Wednesday, December 6, 7:00 p.m. (this is an early start so children can attend and get home by 8:30 p.m.) Terri Winkler will lead us around the UUCR neighborhood singing holiday songs. We will return to the church for hot cocoa and goodies.

50th Anniversary Celebration and Building Dedication On December 10, UUCR looks to its past, present, and future as the congregation celebrates the 50th anniversary of its founding and the dedication of its new sanctuary building. More Details.

  • 10:00 a.m. Golden Anniversary church service with special guest, Reverend Beth Miller.
  • 11:15 a.m. 50th Anniversary Brunch (this is NOT a potluck)
  • 1:00 p.m. New Building Dedication Ceremony
  • Dessert will be served following the dedication.

Wonderful Wednesday: "Yoga: A Year-Round Stress Reducer", Wednesday, December 13, 7:30 p.m. Marylou McNamara, owner and director of Rock Creek Yoga will teach us relaxation techniques helpful in coping with stress not only during the holidays, but all year round. Yoga mats and other props will be provided, so wear comfortable clothing.

Wonderful Wednesday: "Winter Solstice", Wednesday, December 20, 7:30 p.m. There will be drumming, singing, poetry, and candle-lighting to welcome in the season of darkness and cold. There will also be treats, beverages and the light of fellowship.
