For additional information about these and other events, see back issues of UUCR's newsletter, Quest.

Congregational meeting November 2 at 10:10 am in the Worship Hall. We voted to sponsor Paul Britner for the UU Ministry.

The annual Bizarre Bazaar on November 8. Preliminary result is $11,240—hooray! The copious leftovers were also put to good use: Toys and children's clothing went to the Interfaith Clothing Center (a project of the Community Ministry of Montgomery County). Books were donated to the Montgomery County Library Book Sale room at the Wheaton Library. Computers and related electronics were taken to the Montgomery County Transfer Station for recycling. The remainder was donated to the thrift shop run by Upscale Resale/Jobs Unlimited, Inc. The mission of Jobs Unlimited is to promote and provide paid and supported employment to adults with psychiatric disabilities. The thrift shop supports this mission by providing employment for clients and revenue to fund programs.

Bonfire with marshamallows

All-Church Potluck and Bonfire, November 15. Lots of good food and good company! Countless marshmallows and hot dogs were sacrificed in the big outdoor fire, consecrating the site of the new building. We sang songs while the children played indoors or out. Check out the photos posted in the lobby.

Congregational meeting November 16 from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in the Worship Hall. There were presentations by the Comprehensive Plan Committee and by the newly formed Transitional Steering Team (TST presentation). An open forum followed.

Food Drive, November 23. This is the annual event coordinated by All Souls Unitarian Church. It serves more than 600 families in the metro DC area. If you would like to contribute, please bring food items according to the first letter of your last name (see page 4 of the latest Quest for the list). Volunteers of all ages are also needed to assemble the Thanksgiving baskets at All Souls. Adult volunteers are needed to drive food and volunteers to All Souls after each service. There will be a special meal for the volunteers at 12:15 in the All Souls dining room. Last year, volunteers returned to UUCR around 2:30 pm. Please contact Chuck Fenimore to sign up.

Conversation with the Interim Minister, Rev. Sue Turner, December 3, a Wonderful Wednesday program. “December 3rd, 1983, I was ordained into the Unitarian Universalist ministry. I have learned quite a few things about the nature of ministry in these past twenty years, about the nature of Unitarian Universalist ministry. Hear some of my experiences, and join me in a conversation about the nature of ministry here at UUCR.” In this season of celebration, we will also celebrate Rev. Sue’s 20-year anniversary of ordination.

~~~ We are sad to announce that our childcare coordinator, Debbie Graham, has resigned effective December 7. Debbie has been caring, faithful, and conscientious about her job and has barely missed a Sunday in her years of service with us. She leaves us with many memories of laughter, both young and old, and will be truly missed. We wish her luck at her new, full-time job! ~~~
Gift Collection for Beacon House Kids, December 7 and 14. We will be collecting new, unwrapped gifts for Beacon House on December 7 and 14, between services. The gifts will be taken to Beacon House after second service on December 14. If you have any questions about this program, please see Mary Lanigan or Alberta Maschal between services or call them at home. Thank you all for your generosity. The children and adults at Beacon House are grateful to all of you.
Family Caroling Night, December 10, a Wonderful Wednesday program at 7:00 pm. Warm up your voice, wear extra socks and sing holiday favorites with us in the UUCR neighborhood. The children’s and youth choirs will be among the song leaders for our caroling. Treats and hot chocolate follow.
