Our last meeting was in October 2006 . The absence of several key members due to the Thanksgiving holiday forced the cancellation of the November meeting, and as usual, we did not schedule a meeting in December.
About 32 persons attended the meeting on January 27, 2007. We split into three discussion groups, with each group taking a different question. The questions discussed were:
1) Should we have national borders?
2) Is human consciousness due to evolution, or unique and outside evolution?
3) Should faith and science be reconciled?
For the meeting in February we will prime the list of questions with the top vote-getter from the last meeting that was not discussed:
4) Are there advantages to generalizing about people?
The remaining unselected questions proposed at the January meeting were:
5) Is peace in our time possible?
6) Why do we need to know why?
7) Should we make a global effort to reduce our numbers?
These last questions will not automatically be carried forward to the questions list for the next meeting, but participants are free to propose them again if they wish.
