Summary of September 2006 Meeting of Socrates Cafe Rockville

About 16 persons attended the meeting on September 23, 2006. We split into two discussion groups, with each group taking a different question. The questions discussed were:

1) On what criteria can we properly make distinctions in our treatment of and concern for people?
2) Is humor necessary?

For the meeting in October we will prime the list of questions with one from the last meeting that was not discussed:

3) What is greed? Is it ever good?

The remaining unselected questions proposed at the September meeting were:

4) What can be the role of atheism in church activity?
5) How does stigma affect the way we treat people?
6) Is synarchy a realistic phenomenon?
7) Why be humble?

These last questions will not automatically be carried forward to the questions list for the next meeting, but participants are free to propose them again if they wish.
