About 22 persons attended the the meeting on October 28, 2006. We split into three discussion groups, with each group taking a different question. The questions discussed were:
1) What are the proper limits in our search for diversity?
2) Is the death penalty justifiable?
3) Is the US a schizophrenic society? (Exception was taken to the use of the
term schizophrenic, and the intent of the question was clarified in a brief
discussion before voting.)
For the meeting next month we will prime the list of questions with the top vote getter from the last meeting that was not discussed:
4) Should we have national borders?
The remaining unselected questions proposed at the October meeting were:
5) Why do we need guns in a democracy?
6) What can be done to reduce political polarization in the US?
7) What do political conservatives truly care for?
8) Are humans special?
9) What is greed? Is it ever good?
These last questions will not automatically be carried forward to the questions list for the next meeting, but participants are free to propose them again if they wish.
